The Black Farmers and Agriculturalists Association, Inc. will be conducting several meetings in the state of Alabama and elsewhere. These meeting are regarding, among other things, the several class action lawsuits between Black farmers, their heirs and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Many individuals are being paid a $50,000 settlement. However, even many more are being denied the settlement or are having their settlement held up due the probating of the estate of the deceased or incapacitated claimant. Yet other are wondering if they can still participate in the one of the lawsuits. These and other questions and issues will be discussed during these meetings.
The United States Government has announced that it will direct the Treasury Department to issue payments of $62,500.00 to approximately 18,000 claimants in the In re Black Farmers Discrimination Litigation, Misc. No. 08-mc-0511 (PLF) (Pigford II) shortly: according to several news sources.
